2. Common topics
Route planning
RouteSky helps you compare route options with weather context and a Journey Score. If a planned route is not appearing as expected, make sure your origin and destination addresses are valid, you have an active internet connection, and your iOS Location settings allow RouteSky to access your location while using the app.
Weather information
RouteSky uses Apple’s WeatherKit for weather data. Forecasts are based on Apple-provided sources and are there to inform your planning and your drive. Each forecast is labelled as a forecast, with the time it was fetched. Weather conditions can change. Always check official local sources before travelling.
CarPlay
Connect your iPhone to any CarPlay head unit. With no journey running, tap Search destination on the car screen, pick a result, and Start Route — or start a route on your iPhone and it appears on the car automatically. End Route on either screen ends both. CarPlay and navigation are free.
Traffic incidents
RouteSky shows traffic incidents on the road ahead — reported collisions, closures and roadworks, where available — and every alert names its source. Incident data is requested for the area around your route, not your exact position. If no incident provider can be reached, RouteSky says incidents can’t be checked rather than showing an empty road. You can change incident alerts in RouteSky’s Profile settings.
RouteSky Pro
RouteSky is free to use, including the whole-route forecast, every weather warning, CarPlay, multi-stop planning and unlimited saved trips. RouteSky Pro adds more in the Weather Timeline, Leave in 30 and Arrive By planning, extra road-trip stages and saved-trip briefings, your own Journey Score weights and an additional route alternative. If you’re new to RouteSky, your first three journeys in your first 14 days include every Pro feature. Pro is available as an auto-renewing subscription with a 7-day free trial, or as RouteSky Pro Lifetime, a one-time purchase — both billed by Apple. See the RouteSky Terms of Use for details.
Restore purchases
If you have previously purchased RouteSky Pro on the same Apple ID, open RouteSky, go to the subscription or settings screen, and choose Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed into the App Store on your device with the Apple ID used at the time of purchase.
Ask RouteSky
Ask RouteSky appears in the Trip Briefing on iPhones where Apple Intelligence is available and switched on (Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri). If you don’t see it, your device or region may not support Apple Intelligence yet — everything else in RouteSky works without it. Answers are worked out on your iPhone from the route’s own forecast; if RouteSky can’t verify an answer, it shows you the plain facts instead.
Departure Countdown
In the planner, pick a departure time on the strip and choose to count down to it. The countdown appears on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and on the Apple Watch Smart Stack and CarPlay Dashboard where available. It ends by itself when you start driving. If it doesn’t appear, check Settings → RouteSky → Live Activities.
Privacy
RouteSky does not require an account and is designed to minimise data collection. See the RouteSky Privacy Policy and Privacy Choices for details, including how location and route information are used.
3. Subscriptions
RouteSky Pro is sold as an auto-renewing subscription, or as RouteSky Pro Lifetime, a one-time purchase that never renews. Pricing and renewal period are disclosed at the point of purchase. Subscriptions renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period and are billed to your Apple ID. Manage or cancel your subscription at any time in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your Apple device.
4. Refunds
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund via Apple’s website: reportaproblem.apple.com. Your rights under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected.
5. Location permissions
RouteSky uses your location to plan routes and guide you while navigating. During an active drive, location can continue in the background so guidance doesn’t stop when your phone locks — never when you’re not navigating. You can change RouteSky’s location access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → RouteSky.
6. Safety note
RouteSky is an aid to navigation only. Its directions, weather information and Community Reports do not replace your own judgement, road signs, official road guidance, emergency alerts or the law, and you remain responsible for driving safely at all times. Set your route before you set off, and while driving use RouteSky only through lawful hands-free means such as CarPlay, Apple Watch or Siri. Report a hazard only when it is safe: when you are stopped, as a passenger, or hands-free where that is lawful. RouteSky does not stop you from starting a report while moving — that judgement is yours. What you see on the road always wins.
7. Reporting an issue
If you’ve found a bug, please email [email protected] with the subject RouteSky Support — Bug, and include reproduction steps. For accessibility issues, please use RouteSky Accessibility in the subject — see the RouteSky Accessibility Statement.
8. Legal
See the RouteSky Privacy Policy, RouteSky Terms of Use, Privacy Choices, and Accessibility Statement. The main Alderframe Privacy Policy and Alderframe Terms also apply.
9. RouteSky for Android
RouteSky for Android is coming soon to Google Play, in the United Kingdom. These answers are for version 1.0.
Downloading regions
RouteSky for Android works from map data stored on your phone. It covers England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in 20 regions, grouped by nation under Offline maps & data. Download the regions you need before you set off. Once a region is on your phone, its map, place search and route planning work from that data, even where mobile signal is patchy. Update maps automatically and Nearby maps can also download for you; both are optional, and Nearby maps is off by default.
“No map data for this area”
Outside the regions on your phone, RouteSky tells you it has no map data for the area. Download the region that covers it. The Republic of Ireland is not covered yet.
Storage
Downloaded regions are stored on your phone and take up storage space, so download over Wi-Fi where you can, and only the regions you need. To free the space, clear RouteSky’s storage in your phone’s settings, or uninstall the app. This removes every downloaded region, with your settings and journey history.
Offline voice
Spoken directions use your phone’s own offline speech engine, so they work without a connection. If you hear no voice, check that your phone’s media volume is up and that a text-to-speech voice is installed in your phone’s settings.
