Report illegal content.
How to send Alderframe a formal notice about a RouteSky Community Report you believe contains illegal content — the Article 16 route under the EU Digital Services Act.
The only content that users share with each other through an Alderframe product is the optional Community Reports feature in RouteSky: structured hazard reports (a type from a fixed list, a location, a time and an automatically generated context note) with no free text, photos or profiles. If you believe one of those reports is illegal — for example because it is being used to harass or endanger someone — this page explains how to tell us formally. Anyone can send a notice; you do not need an account and you do not need to be the person affected.
Flagging in the app is different
Tapping Flag this report in RouteSky, or blocking a source of reports, is a community moderation and quality mechanism. Flags are handled by automated safeguards — rate limits and a threshold that hides a report after several flags from different installations — and are not individually reviewed by a person. An in-app flag is not a formal notice that content is illegal. If that is what you want to tell us, send a notice as described below.
How to send a formal notice
Email [email protected] with the subject line DSA Article 16 Illegal Content Notice, or write to Alderframe Ltd, 66 Paul Street, London, England, EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom. We communicate in English.
Community Reports are short-lived and do not have permanent public links, so we do not ask you for a URL. To let us find the report and assess your notice, please include as much of the following as you can:
- Your name and a contact email address, so that we can acknowledge your notice and tell you our decision. You may leave these out if your notice concerns child sexual abuse material or an offence under Articles 3 to 7 of Directive 2011/93/EU.
- Why you consider the content illegal, explained in enough detail for us to understand the concern, and the legal basis or nature of the alleged illegality where you know it (for example, which law you believe it breaks).
- Enough information to identify the report, for example:
- a report ID, if the app shows you one;
- the hazard type (ice, fog, flooding, closure, and so on);
- the approximate location (road, junction or nearby place);
- the approximate date and time you saw it;
- a screenshot; and
- anything else that would help us pick it out.
- Supporting evidence, where relevant.
- A statement that you genuinely believe the information in your notice is accurate and complete.
What happens next
Notices are read by a person. We will confirm receipt without undue delay, look into the report and any related records, decide promptly, diligently and without arbitrary treatment, and tell you what we decided and how to challenge it. Where a notice lets us see that content is illegal without a detailed legal examination, we act on it as soon as we can. We may hide or remove the report, restrict the installation that shared it, or decide that no action is needed; we will explain which. If you disagree with our decision, you can ask us to review it as described on our Digital Services Act page, and nothing prevents you from using any judicial or other remedy available to you under applicable law.
Please only send a notice if you genuinely believe the content is illegal. We will continue to receive and assess formal notices, although a notice that is manifestly unfounded, or that repeats one we have already decided, may be answered briefly. Misuse of the RouteSky service itself, including bad-faith reporting or flagging in the app, is dealt with under the RouteSky Terms.
How we handle the information you send
Alderframe Ltd is the data controller for the personal data in your notice (your name, contact details, and anything you include about yourself or others). We use it only to receive, assess, investigate and respond to your notice, to keep a record of the notice and our decision, and to deal with any review, dispute or request from an authority that follows. Our lawful basis depends on where you are: where the EU GDPR applies and the processing is necessary for Alderframe to comply with its obligations under the Digital Services Act, we rely on compliance with a legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)); for processing under the UK GDPR involved in receiving, investigating, documenting and defending legal-content notices, we rely on our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) in operating RouteSky lawfully and responsibly, unless a separate UK legal obligation applies to the particular step. Where relevant, the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims and cooperation with regulators may also justify keeping a record. Please avoid including special-category or criminal-offence personal data unless it is genuinely necessary for your notice; where such information is supplied, Alderframe will process it only where an additional condition required by applicable data-protection law is satisfied. We may share the substance of your notice, but not your identity, with the person who shared the report where we are able to contact them and need to explain our decision. We keep notices and decisions for as long as needed to deal with the matter and any review, and then for a limited period in case of a dispute or a request from an authority. The main Alderframe Privacy Policy explains your rights, and you can complain about our handling of your personal data using our data protection complaint form.
Other concerns
