Wayword Privacy Policy
Effective: 26 April 2026 · Last updated: 26 April 2026
This Privacy Policy applies specifically to the Wayword application and any related Wayword services (together, "Wayword"). It is published by Alderframe Ltd ("Alderframe", "we", "us", "our"), a company incorporated in England and Wales. It sits alongside the main Alderframe Privacy Policy; where this Wayword-specific Policy gives more detail or differs, this Policy prevails for Wayword.
Wayword is currently in development. The processing described below reflects how the App is designed and what it is permitted to do; specific data categories and third-party services may evolve before public release. We will update this Policy and the version date when material changes are made.
1. Controller
The controller of personal data processed in connection with Wayword is Alderframe Ltd, registered in England and Wales. For all privacy matters relating to Wayword, contact [email protected].
2. Data Wayword may process
Where applicable, Wayword may process the following categories of personal data. The actual categories used will be disclosed in the Apple App Store "App Privacy" entry for Wayword and in any in-App notice at the point of collection.
- Account information — if Wayword introduces accounts: a username or display name, email address, and authentication credentials (stored hashed). If you sign in with Apple, we receive a stable pseudonymous identifier and (optionally) a relay email address.
- User content — any content you create, save or store within Wayword (such as entries, lists, drafts, settings, attachments). User content is stored on your device by default; if iCloud sync is offered, it is processed by Apple under your iCloud account.
- Device and technical data — device model, OS version, locale, time zone, and Apple-generated identifiers (such as the Identifier for Vendors, "IDFV") used to operate the App, secure it, and diagnose problems.
- Diagnostics & usage data — crash reports and aggregated usage signals used to maintain stability and improve Wayword. Where required, this is processed only with your consent.
- Purchase metadata — if Wayword offers paid features, in-app purchases or subscriptions, transaction metadata such as product identifier, purchase date, subscription state, and a transaction receipt. Apple processes payment; we do not see or store payment card information.
- Support communications — anything you send when contacting [email protected].
Wayword does not seek special-category personal data (for example, health, biometric, or political opinion). If a feature ever requires it, we will ask for your specific consent at the point of collection and explain the legal basis there.
3. Why we process this data & legal basis (UK GDPR)
- Operating Wayword — to provide the App's features and any account or purchase you request. Legal basis: performance of a contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b)).
- Keeping Wayword secure and reliable — to detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorised use, to debug crashes, and to enforce these terms. Legal basis: our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) and legal obligation where applicable.
- Improving Wayword — to understand what works and what does not. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) where required, otherwise our legitimate interests in improving the App.
- App Tracking Transparency (ATT) — Wayword does not currently track you across other apps and websites and does not access the device's advertising identifier (IDFA) for tracking. If that ever changes, Wayword will request your explicit permission via Apple's standard ATT prompt before any such tracking occurs. You can review and revoke that choice at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Communicating with you — to reply to your support enquiries, to send service messages, and (with your consent) marketing about Wayword. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Compliance and legal claims — to comply with legal obligations and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Legal basis: legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) and our legitimate interests.
4. Children
Wayword is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, whichever is higher) and we do not knowingly collect personal data from such children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact [email protected] and we will promptly delete it.
5. Who we share Wayword data with
We do not sell personal data. We share data only with the recipients listed below, only to the extent necessary, and only under contracts that meet the requirements of UK GDPR Article 28 where the recipient acts on our instructions.
- Apple — for App Store distribution, in-app purchases and subscriptions, Sign in with Apple (if used), iCloud / CloudKit (if used), TestFlight (during beta), App Store Connect privacy reporting, push notifications (APNs), and crash reporting via Xcode / App Analytics. Apple's own Privacy Policy applies to its processing.
- Crash and diagnostics providers (where used) — to receive and process crash logs and stability metrics.
- Hosting and content-delivery providers — for any backend services Wayword uses.
- Email / support tools — to receive and reply to your messages.
- Professional advisers — lawyers, accountants and insurers, bound by confidentiality.
- Authorities and successors — where lawfully compelled or in connection with a corporate transaction.
The full list of third parties used by Wayword at release will be reflected in the App Store "App Privacy" disclosure and the Wayword Acknowledgements page.
6. Storage and international transfers
User content created in Wayword is stored on your device by default. If you opt into iCloud sync, Apple stores it under your iCloud account and within Apple's regions and infrastructure. Other providers may operate outside the United Kingdom. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on the legal mechanisms set out in the main Alderframe Privacy Policy (UK adequacy regulations, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses), with additional technical measures such as encryption in transit and at rest where appropriate.
7. Retention
Personal data is retained only as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this Policy or as required by law. As a guide:
- User content stored locally — for as long as you choose to keep it; deleting an entry inside Wayword removes it from on-device storage.
- Account data (if Wayword introduces accounts) — for the life of the account, plus a short grace period after deletion to allow recovery and to expire from backups.
- Diagnostics & crash data — typically up to 12 months.
- Purchase records — at least six years from the end of the relevant financial year, to meet UK tax and accounting obligations.
- Support correspondence — up to 3 years after the issue is closed.
8. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and the right to withdraw consent. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office or your local supervisory authority. To exercise any right relating to Wayword, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before acting and will respond within one month, extendable by two months for complex requests.
9. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including TLS in transit, encryption at rest where appropriate, least-privilege administration and routine review of vendors. No system is perfectly secure; if you believe your account or data has been compromised, contact us immediately.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The "Effective" and "Last updated" dates above show when it was last revised. Material changes will be flagged in the App, on this page, or by email where appropriate.
